Tip of the Iceberg

Have you ever had that perfect cup or travel mug? The one that MUST hold your first morning coffee or tea? The one you can’t do without? Well, for the longest time, for me, it was a simple mug with the words, “the shortcut to contentment is gratitude”. It’s a phrase taken from a devotional called The Comparison Trap by the ever-wise Sandra Stanley. (Of course, these days, my favorite mug is our steep. sip. enjoy. mug! Wink, wink.).

I’m not sure what it was about the mug—maybe it was the lip that is just thin enough to be perfect for me, maybe it was because it’s just so cheerfully white, or maybe just the right shape or size. Either way, every morning that first cup of brew was in it, and for full disclosure, I actually had two of them—kind of the way you get your kids two of their favorite teddy bear in case one has an accident or gets lost.

Most mornings though, the words on the mug didn’t even register in my caffeine-deprived mind. But recently, I can’t seem to get those words OUT of my mind. Maybe it’s because I’ve recently been reminding myself of how many people, things, and situations I have to be grateful for. And lo and behold! I’ve come to realize that I’ve been feeling so, so content!

Now, realize that this contentment isn’t the same thing as having everything I’ve ever wanted or being completely satisfied with everything and everyone in my life. It means that I recognize that even if it’s not the best that ANYONE could have, what I have is pretty darned good.

And the list of the things I’m grateful for is way longer than I would have thought—I’m usually a the-glass-is-half-empty kind of gal! So I’ve decided I want to share with you some of what I am most grateful for and why, over the next couple of blog posts. To be honest, this will not be a quick endeavor, and you may decide you really don’t care what I am thankful for or why. But I do, and maybe someone reading this will, and begin realize all the amazing things they have to be grateful for, too.

Besides, Thanksgiving is coming up quicker than you can blink your eyes. We might as well get into the spirit now. So bear with me for getting personal for the next couple of months. I hope you’ll come along for the ride and enjoy this as much as I will.

So I’m going to leave you today with just the tip of the iceberg of what I’m grateful for. I’m so very grateful for YOU and for the Buckhead Tea Company community. For your encouragement and your support for our fledgling business that’s so much more than just business to us. It’s the culmination of a dream and you are a huge part of that. And today, I’m also grateful for the delicious Imperial Jasmine Pearl that’s sitting in a favorite mug, and the cooler weather that has finally decided to visit. :)
