Halftime

Oh my goodness has this year passed quickly! Can you believe we are already a little past halfway through 2019? Really, where does the time go? It was January and resolution time, then I blinked, and now the boys start back to school in less that two weeks! Oh, to have time slow down for just a minute. What’s that saying? The days are long, but the years are short. No truer words.

So how are you doing on those New Year’s Resolutions? Do you still remember what yours were? Mine were to lose some weight and to declutter the house. Ha. My plans definitely got derailed. Mom got sick in February, and instead of trimming down, I added some worry weight instead. The thinner she got, the heavier I did! Thankfully, she’s on the mend and putting weight back on, so it’s time for me to start slimming down.

And instead of decluttering my house, I helped my parents empty theirs. They moved from their home of 25+ years into a new, smaller (1/3 the size) home. That’s a lot of stuff to pare down. I confess to being rather bulldozer-ish about it, but someone had to do it. Isn’t it always easier to help someone get rid of their stuff than your own? And somehow, I ended up with more stuff in my house as a result! Haha.

As you can see, I haven’t been all that successful at keeping my resolutions, but thankfully, there’s still almost 6 months for me to keep trying! So I’m ready to make some halftime adjustments: I’m going to give myself some grace for not being as far as I’d like in terms of my resolutions. Life is hard sometimes and it can come at you fast. But there’s no better time than now to try again.

So here I go again. I’m recommitting, but commitment is not consistency. Commitment gets me to the starting line, but consistency will get me to the finish line. I’m going to make small, positive, consistent deposits and see where I end up instead of going all in upfront and then burning out.

I’m a visual person, so this is what is sitting before me right now. Jars with rocks? Yup, jars with rocks. You see, every time I make that small positive deposit, I’m going to move a pebble from one jar into its corresponding jar. They’re not very full yet, but before I know it, if I am consistent, I’ll have rocks moved around and hopefully something more to show for it. A little every day, and we’ll see where all that leads. Anyone else want to join me at a halftime readjustment?

And since I’ve already moved some pebbles around today, I’m not going to feel guilty about sitting with my feet up on the couch and enjoying a cup of Spring Blossom. 😜
